Pleased to share the updates regarding a project we support and deeply believe in, finally comes the news of the successful conclusion of the Laveggio Park works! Thanks to the Penate footbridge, which was laid during the night of 30-31 August, one of the most important interventions of the Year of the Laveggio has now been completed.
The footbridge, which allows the Mendrisio junction to be crossed by adding an important stretch to the continuous route of the Laveggio Park, creates a new connection to the river from the village of Rancate. The footbridge is financed by the City of Mendrisio with the participation of the “Fonds Mobiliare ponti e passerelle”. Thanks to four Mendrisiotto service clubs – Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis and Soroptimist – a small bridge was restored to cross the river further downstream.
In the context of the Year of the Laveggio, the construction of the new footbridge in Penate represents one of the most important interventions: it makes it possible to reach the banks of the river from Rancate by an alternative route and to cross the motorway junction, thus filling an important gap in the route of the Laveggio Park. This new connection allows an almost continuous pedestrian walk through the park, without having to detour through the industrial and commercial areas of Mendrisio. 1.5 kilometres of track are thus shifted from asphalt to footpath, mostly along the river bank. Designed by Atelier PeR architetti of Mendrisio, with the collaboration of the Holinger engineering firm, the footbridge resolves the interruption created by the new industrial road with a light and precise design, bringing the human dimension back into the midst of the infrastructure.
On Sunday 8 October, the entire Laveggio Park will be inaugurated and the entire population is invited to participate in the proposed activities that will be presented at the beginning of October!
