It probably not everyone knows that in Lugano, at Via Canevascini 4, opposite the RSI radio studio, is home to the lediecilune Maternity and Birth Home. A privileged place, cared for by experienced midwives, the Maternity and Birth Home was officially inagurated in April 2016, in the presence of the authorities. With great emotion, the milestone of 100 births was reached in 2020. A number that grows month after month, year after year.
A project that Maria Luisa Siccardi strongly desired and therefore co-financed through Medacta for Life Foundation, lediecilune birth home is part of the cantonal health network. It is an ambulatory facility (the stay does not exceed 24 hours after the birth) and at the end of June 2015 it passed the inspection of the Health Office of the Canton of Ticino and the Municipality of Lugano, entering into a collaboration agreement with the Ospedale Civico di Lugano. A much more present and long-standing reality in transalpine countries, lediecilune is the first birthing centre in Italian-speaking Switzerland. It is a space for women and families to rediscover and experience the magical moment of birth with awareness and harmony. Intimate and protected, lediecilune Maternity and Birth Home is not reserved only for those who give birth there: the midwives follow all women who request it, before and after the hospital birth, or for home birth. It is also a space for meetings, courses and sharing open to all parents.
The Maternity and Birth Home also houses the headquarters of the Associatione Nascere Bene Ticino- ANBT, an organisation that has always supported the project and with which it collaborates in various areas.
