Happy to support the Laveggio Park project and to follow its further advancement, here is recent news of great note: the project has now also received precious recognition and support from the Swiss Landscape Fund (SPF)!
The significant financial support from the Swiss Landscape Fund is a reward for the quality and innovative approach of the project, which aims to protect the Upper Mendrisiotto valley floor so that it becomes a green recreation area for the population. In this context, the promoters of the project also announce the opening to the public of the new trail in Ligornetto that runs alongside the Laveggio Meandri reserve, one of the very few intact natural areas in the Laveggio plain. This is one of the most important interventions of the project, which makes it possible to walk through the park from Stabio to Mendrisio without leaving the natural area, while awaiting the completion of the trail to the lake in October.
In addition to the support of the Medacta for Life Foundation, Medacta International SA contributes to the project by offering its employees a volunteer activity to be carried out together within the framework of the activities promoted by the organisers. This involves planting trees and bushes, a real support for the local flora and fauna. Trees will be planted in a number of locations in the park to shade the river bed and help cool the water; the action improves the habitat for fish and adds vital space for numerous animal species that find refuge and food there. The planned date for this important event, which already has at least thirty people signed up to date, is Saturday 23rd September, subject to rescheduling in the event of rain.
Excellent example of systemic philanthropy and public-private cooperation, we hope that the Anno del Laveggio project and its recent developments will set a benchmark. There are many other actions and initiatives of proven worth in the area, some of which we have launched and are still supporting, which we hope can become more and more structured, thus gaining attention and support to achieve lasting, extensive and highly positive results for the entire community.
On Sunday 8th October, the entire Laveggio Park will be inaugurated, and the whole population is invited to participate in the various proposed activities, which will be unveiled at the beginning of October. More information and opportunities to participate can be found at www.parcolaveggio.ch
