On Wednesday, 13 July, we learned from Kiev that our last cargo of humanitarian aid had arrived at its final destination! Dr. Lysenko and the two other recipients, a professor of Endocrinology and the contact person of a Humanitarian Association on the spot, received the special authorisation from the Military Administration required to collect the aid that arrived in the capital, thus obtaining access to the so long-awaited convoy. This good news we are sharing with you is telling us that our little gesture – in such a big situation – has landed there, where it is most needed.
After the transport by truck provided by Monika, who unloaded the goods at the state warehouses in Poland, the cargo departed by rail to Kiev, with the humanitarian aid transport organised by the country. Once in Kiev, it is the recipients who have to reach what is addressed to them, and the operation has required additional time and effort on the part of those who are already severely overburdened.
Another path was followed by insulin, purchased by us and other local benefactors, also destined for Kiev. To this shipment, which requires the cold chain, has been added an important quantity of oncological medicines, which also need refrigerated transport. The risk of customs delays or other stops (as evidenced by the goods received by Lysenko several weeks after departure) made the success of the expedition doubtful. Thanks to the solid contacts, and deep determination, of one of our contacts from a friendly association here in Ticino, insulin and oncological medicines left with a delegation of Ukrainian diplomats and parliamentarians present in Lugano for the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference (4-5 July 2022). The medicines arrived in Kiev on Wednesday 6 July. We are endlessly grateful to these people and to all those who collaborated and worked together with us, proving once again that only united we can truly make a difference with concrete actions of hope and help.
