The Laveggio Park project originates from the will to protect the last green areas on the Mendrisiotto valley floor. The Laveggio river flows from Stabio to Riva San Vitale – its course marks a green area of great value, a backbone in a dispersedly urbanised context. It truly is a natural oasis that serves as a structuring and connecting element for slow mobility and recreation for the community, as well as an ecological corridor.
The idea was developed by the Cittadini per il Territorio organisation, with architect Tita Carloni, and resulted in the publication of the manual “Parco del Laveggio – Project Model” in 2018 – a study that was favourably received by the municipalities and the Canton, which began to work on some of the proposed actions. The history of the project and its development is on the dedicated website: Parco del Laveggio: Home (parcolaveggio.ch).
At the heart of the project is the revaluation of the water course and surrounding areas, as well as the creation of a green area for the community and outdoor activities. Donations from public and private entities, including Medacta for Life Foundation, local agencies as well as valuable voluntary work contributed to the realisation of the planned interventions.
In addition to the financial support from Medacta for Life Foundation, employees from Medacta International and Medacta for Life Foundation warmly participated in a volunteer day held in September 2023 to plant trees and shrubs. Pupils from 2nd and 3rd grade classes of My Kid 6-10 also contributed to the redevelopment with planting along the river banks under the supervision of local experts during an educational outing.
