For many young people, summer is a time for holidays, new friendships and outdoor activities. For unaccompanied minors living in the residential homes of the Swiss Red Cross – Sottoceneri Section, however, this period can become a particularly challenging time: with schools closed, daily routines are interrupted and the risk of isolation increases.
This is why, once again this year, the Foundation has decided to renew its support for the educational, recreational and social activities organised by the Swiss Red Cross, continuing its commitment to providing these young people with meaningful opportunities for well-being, inclusion and personal development.
The programme goes far beyond offering leisure activities. Excursions, sports, workshops, shared experiences, language courses and other initiatives help participants strengthen their skills, build positive relationships, discover the local area and develop greater confidence, independence and a sense of belonging.
The results achieved over the past year demonstrate the value of this approach. In 2025, more than 220 youngster took part in the activities organised by the Swiss Red Cross, including intensive Italian language and mathematics courses, excursions, sports activities, cultural outings and a wide range of group experiences throughout the summer, all designed to foster learning, inclusion and social interaction.
The programme will continue in 2026. With capacity for up to 280 residents in total, the Swiss Red Cross currently provides accommodation and support to 125 unaccompanied minors and 93 young adults, a particularly vulnerable group who often lose important educational and social support once they reach adulthood. For this reason, activities are organised throughout the year—not only during the summer months—with the aim of maintaining meaningful relationships, preventing isolation and supporting these young people on their path towards independence.
Supporting this programme means investing in opportunities that can truly make a difference: offering moments of serenity, shared experiences and practical tools to help these young people build their future. With this renewed commitment, the Foundation reaffirms its dedication to projects that promote inclusion, well-being and personal development, convinced that supporting the most vulnerable members of our community ultimately strengthens society as a whole.
