The support for OWB – Orthopedics Without Borders is long-standing. A partnership based on mutual trust and, for Medacta International and Medacta for Life Foundation, nurtured by great esteem for the invaluable humanitarian work and impeccable professionalism of the teams involved in the missions. The supporting agreement has been renewed recently: for the three-year period 2025-2027 there will again be both in-kind support (prostheses and instruments) from the company and financial support from the Foundation.
It has been an intense last period for the Association, which has endured three missions in three months: between December 2024 and February 2025, Prof. Dubrana and his team went twice to Cambodia and once to Laos. The latter mission, in Vientiane, between 10 and 14 February, counted no fewer than 14 arthroplasty operations in four days. Under the supervision of their European colleagues, most of the operations were carried out by local surgeons: a great result, which confirms the excellence of the work carried out over the years.
The surgical block of the Mittaphab Hospital in Vientiane is now the most important orthopaedic and traumatology service in the country. Every day, around 20 patients are operated on, mainly for road accidents. OWB’s regular missions over several years have certainly made a huge contribution to the growth of this hospital and its orthopaedic department.
Our esteem and gratitude always go to Prof. Dubrana and Dr. Berthelet (founders) and all colleagues involved in the missions, as well as to all OWB members and those who-behind the scenes- make such work possible. A heartfelt thank you also to all Medacta Int. staff and colleagues involved in logistics to support the missions and in-kind donations! Together, stronger!
